Hello Friends!

Recently I’ve received a lot of questions about what tools I use for my photography and illustrations so I thought I’d write a few blog posts about my favorite creative tools. Today’s post is going to be all about my photography favorites. Let’s get started!

Resources

How To Take Great Photographs by Henry Carroll - I randomly picked this book up at an Urban Outfitters in Arizona and it totally simplified all the photography lingo. It has a ton of great simplistic visuals that help break down the three keys of photography: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. If you're looking to increase your baseline knowledge of photography and really master your DSLR, this book is a great starting point!

Equipment

Nikon D3400 – One of the reasons I chose to invest in a Nikon as opposed to a Canon is because of the Nikon’s ability to be user friendly. My first DSLR was an older Canon and I found it incredibly difficult to maneuver. In Canon’s defense, I wasn’t really well educated on the photography basics but even once I learned the wonders of manual mode I just didn’t enjoy using a Canon. If you’re just starting to get into photography and really want to step it up I totally recommend Nikons. It is the beginner’s best friend.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Lens – This lens has quickly become the only lens I shoot with. I love portrait photography with crisp foregrounds and blurred backgrounds so lenses with low f stops are a must for me. Photography to me is all about the kind of emotions you want to portray with your photos. Prime lenses such as these help you create really intimate moments which are my favorite! The photo below was shot with this lens!

Editing Applications

I edit my photos on my mobile device or iPad Pro since I’m able to easily download my photos to my devices. This makes it super easy to upload photos to Instagram or Facebook Business pages. These apps are all free or under 5$ and offer tons of different filter packages. Adobe Lightroom is free as long as you have an Adobe ID and it’s a great editing tool!

That’s it! It doesn’t take much, does it? I hope anyone that had questions now have them answered. If you have any further questions please make sure to drop a comment down below. I love helping other creatives out!

Love,

Becca
